The truth is, I said yes to leading the funeral because it was for him. When you’re stood beside a couple on one of the best days of their lives to say “I do”, and a few years later you’re asked to stand with them on one of their hardest days, you don’t hesitate. I said yes. I wasn’t ready but I quickly became ready.

Funeral celebrant preparation?

I talked to experienced funeral celebrants, funeral directors, I did my research, I listen to others speak about their loved one’s funeral. I’m grateful I got to meet with them before he passed and taking a quite moment to acknowledge him, not in a ritual way, an extended silence to recognise his life mattered and I’m entrusted with part of it.

And I meet with his wife. Time together… Ill put the kettle on …

When writing, I’m aware of the shift in purpose. With weddings it’s about building forward momentum, anticipation, showing the brightest version of their connection, it’s uplifting.

With funerals the work is still storytelling, but the direction changes. Im holding what was. The writing is slower, more restrained, gathering the energy inward, the language is softer.

I make sure I don’t take any ‘wedding warmth’ into my funeral writing nor take my ‘funeral weight’ into a wedding day, writing or meeting couples. How? Allow enough space in between.

Ocean swims, bike rides, dog walks, more chocolate. And laughter. Finding moments of happiness in each day.

And again I’m reminded of our huge capacity to love.

A wedding ring bearer with a difference. This little Italian leather heart bag began life as a Valentine’s Day gift… but the moment it was unwrapped, both of us had the same thought.

“I can use this in my wedding ceremonies”.

‘And just like that’, it becomes something that holds a moment of anticipation.

❤️Instead of the traditional ring box, the couple unzip the heart to reveal their rings or vows. It becomes a focus point, certainly larger than a ring box.

It opens the door for a young family member to be part of the ceremony.

The bride and bridesmaid paddle boarded into the Callala Bay cove beach for the surprised starter of the wedding ceremony.

I loved how a fuss free wedding ceremony still has lots of personality including Labrador Reggie, the ring bearer.

I arrived with the rake, the umbrellas, the table, chairs, and helped the dads and groom set up the arbour and prep the ceremony space.

When the Valentine’s Days wedding ceremony takes a turn, you pivot with heart. It certainly looked different from the original personalise co presented, creative wedding ceremony for 80 guests on the surf club balcony to an intimate legals only wedding ceremony, with some personal touches, at a beachside cabin today.

When one partner became unwell earlier in the week, we adjusted the style and location but not the meaning. Because at the end of the day, it’s about saying “I choose you”. With this favourite processional song too!!

Wedding aesthetic inspiration. Bryan and Sandra’s wedding day was designed to feel completely immersed in nature.

Their outdoor wedding ceremony, canapés, reception and dance floor all unfolded in one stunning location, surrounded by Australian bush, a flowing river and in parts the soundtrack of birdsong. It was a perfect example of how a relaxed, nature-inspired wedding can be achieved without excess or overwhelm.

With the natural landscape doing most of the styling, the aesthetics were effortlessly beautiful, enhanced by thoughtful, personal touches that reflected Bryan and Sandra perfectly. I was impressed how this beautifully styled outdoor wedding felt calm, authentic and wonderfully relaxed 💛 proof that when nature sets the scene, everything else falls into place.
